This is the site of the home of Park Paeng-nyeon (1417-1456), who was one of the six martyrs who were killed for attempting to reinstate King Danjong, who was toppled, back to the throne.
Park was born in 1417, the 17th year of the reign of King Tejong in what is now Dong-gu Gayang-dong. He named himself, Chwigeumheon(penname) is to reflect his love for playing the Gayagum(a traditional string instrument).
Park died in prison with five other accomplices who failed in their attempts to bring the former King, Danjong back to the throne.
In 1691, King Sookjong reinstated the defamation of the six martyrs and in 1758, King Youngjo raised their posts to Yijopanseo(high ranking government official).
The six martyrs are considered as the most patriotic retainers of the Joseon Dynasty.
