Uam Historic Park

Overview

Uam Historic Park is located at the foot of a low hill at Gayang-dong. Let's turn away from our busy daily life and look at the part of history that we have ignored without knowing its true value due to the fact that it was so close to us.

Uam Historic Park is a place where the great Confucian scholar during the late Joseon Period Uam Song Shi Yeol (1607-1689) studied and it has been reborn as a historic park with sixteen buildings including Jangpangak Pavilion, an exhibition hall, and library across 16,000 pyeong as it was renovated from 1991 until 1997. This place preserves historically significant cultural heritage such as Namganjeongsa, where the great scholar taught his disciples in later years, Gigukjeong, featuring outstanding architectural beauty, and Songjadaejeonpan, which is a collection of works by Song Shi Yeol. The park itself is well decorated and is an excellent place for resting for the people living in the city as well.

You will notice the old buildings featuring roof tiles between the green grass and trees as you step foot in the park past the fancy entrance with its exquisite paintwork. You begin to feel relaxed by the scent of age and reflect on your daily life by running forward.

There are also Namgansa and artifact museum where services to Uam are performed during spring and fall within the historic park. The artifact museum displays a marten fur coat which was given by King Hyojong as he entrusted the northern expedition to Uam along with other articles and books left by him which tell us about the historic background at the time. These artifacts attract those who have visited the historic park tracking the traces of the great scholar.
